Jarome Iginla is not getting traded

Calgary Flames GM Jay Feaster squashed any “trade Iggy” rumours that were floating around. Or did he?

“Jarome Iginla has not been asked to waive his no-trade, and Jarome Iginla has not demanded a trade or asked for a trade,” Feaster said. “There is no list. There is no smoking gun. There is nobody on the grassy knoll.”

“When it’s a non-story, and we have to stand here and rebut it, the rebuttal becomes the story. It puts us in a position that I don’t know is fair to the organization. I know it is not fair to Jarome.”

I’m not sure if his comments will do the trick though. It seems as though the “trade Iggy” rumours have reached across Canada. I just received a text from my buddy, who is a leafs fan. It read, “We’ll give you Phaneuf back for Iggy.”

BWAAAAHH HAAAAA HAAAAAA HAAAA!!! OH STOP IT! STOP IT! YOU’RE KILLING ME!!

Anyone who has read Red Mile Blog for a while knows that I am no fan of Dion Phaneuf, and they’ll also know that I don’t think we would get enough in return for Iggy to make a trade worthwhile. Even so, it’s pretty funny to hear that Leafs fans are not so hot on their captain anymore. I’ve watched with glee since the Leafs cooled off this season (remember when they were the #1 team in the league?) and I’ve seen more than one instance when Phaneuf was the main cause of a goal against. The familiar “Dion trips while turning from skating forwards to backwards, leading to an odd man rush” or the “Dion is way out of position and allows an opponent to skate into the slot all alone and score” or the always classy “Dion takes a stupid penalty with less than 10 minutes in the game, giving up the go-ahead goal” are still prevalent in Dion’s game.

I’m not sure if my buddy was speaking officially on behalf of Leafs GM Brian Burke, but I’ll speak on behalf of Flames fans everywhere when I say this. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, EVER!! Not in a million years would we ever accept Dion Phaneuf back in a trade and certainly not for the lifeblood of our franchise for the last decade. Iggy stays. That’s all I have to say on this.

Now, why don’t you go and do something good with your day by supporting KidSport Calgary by purchasing an Iggy shirt.
