The Flames have yet to win this regular season, after losing 5-2 in St. Louis on Monday afternoon. While the rest of us were digesting our Thanksgiving turkey, the Flames were doing their best to notch their first two points this season.
The Blues, who also lost their first game of the season, ended up getting the better of the Flames thanks to two second period goals from defencemen Kevin Shattenkirk and Alex Pietrangelo. Those two goals from the point broke a 1-1 tie and put the Blues ahead for good. Calgary captain Jarome Igina made it a little closer with his first goal of the season, scored on the powerplay. But it would be as close as the Flames would come.
Chris Stewart scored early in the 3rd to give the Blues a two-goal lead and Jason Arnott added some insurance with just over 5 minutes remaining in the game to finish it up at 5-2.
The Flames have now lost their first two games and will be looking to get in the win column when they visit the Bell Centre in Montreal on Thursday.
