The Flames host the Oilers at the ‘Dome tonight for their final game of the preseason. The Oilers will be looking to improve their preseason record, while the Flames hope to finish the 2010 preseason with a perfect 7-0 record. The Flames handed the Oilers their only preseason loss when they beat them 5-1 in Edmonton on Friday.
The Flames have been perfect so far this preseason, and have found scoring both where they expected it and where they least expected it. Jarome Iginla scored 2 goals, including the game-winner on Friday, with helpers from Alex Tanguay. The top line of Tanguay-Jokinen-Iginla has been successful after a rocky start in their first preseason game. They are now contributing every night, and will look to keep that going again tonight.
The Flames have also had some offensive boost from twenty year old prospect, T.J. Brodie, who also scored on Friday. Brodie wasn’t known for his offensive abilities while playing in the OHL, but he has made a convincing case for a place on the Flames roster in 2010-2011 after scoring in multiple games so far this preseason. He will spend some time with the Abbotsford Heat, no doubt, but look for him to make his regular season NHL debut sometime this year. Brodie is also a hit with Flames fans. His name is all over Twitter, and he was chosen by over 50% of fans when asked “which young Flame have you liked most during training camp?” on calgaryflames.com.
Puck drop is 6pm and if you’re not lucky enough to have tickets to the game, you can watch it on Sportsnet Calgary. For a little bit of Battle of Alberta history, check out my Battle of Alberta archives.
