The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed Nigel Dawes, who was picked up off waivers from the Phoenix Coyotes. The details of the contract were not released and saves both sides from a potential salary arbitration hearing this week.
A little known fact: this announcement will take the award for “shortest guy on the team” away from Daymond Langkow, who became the shortest player on the Flames roster when Mike Cammalleri signed with Montreal. Dawes is 5′ 9″ tall and is one of only 3 players on the Flames that measure in below 6′ 0″ tall. The others are Langkow (5′ 10″) and Brandon Prust (5′ 11″).
