The Calgary Flames have claimed Winnipeg native, Nigel Dawes off waivers.
Former Phoenix Coyotes left winger had filed for salary arbitration with the Coyotes, but was put on waivers by the club. According to TSN.ca, Dawes was looking for a 1-way deal that was worth less than $1M, but Phoenix was not interested in such a deal.
A one-way deal is understandable for a guy that doesn’t want to play in the minors anymore. Prior to last season, when Dawes played a total of 64 games in the NHL with Phoenix and NY Rangers, he floated between the NY Rangers and their Hartford AHL affilliate.
Dawes played for Flames coach Brian Sutter at the World Juniors, and he’s a solid attacking winger. He should fit nicely into the Flames depth chart this season.
