Playing Catch-Up

I Had a busy week last week so I didn’t have much time for watching, playing or blogging about hockey. My sister also came to town over the weekend so we got our hands on some Grey Cup tickets and were in the stands at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal to watch the Calgary Stampeders win the Grey Cup!! Here’s a pic from the game. It’s the play where the Stamps scored their only touchdown of the game…
Stampeders Grey Cup
Now that I have a day off, I’ve been able to update the blog and post some more highlights from the Colorado games last week as well as the Detroit Game on Saturday and last night’s game against the Kings.

I was pretty stoked to be able to finally watch another live Flames game last night. For the rest of the season, I’ll be able to watch the games more than I could in the past, and I’ll probably have more to write.

I just got my NHL Center Ice package hooked up so I’ll be able to watch (or record) all of the Flames games from now on. This is a big deal for me since I don’t live in Calgary and have had a hell of a time trying to watch the games – either live or recorded. I’ve tried everything I could, but it’s been tough for the last 2 seasons while I’ve been living in Hamilton and Montreal. I’ve been inundated with Leafs and Canadiens games… and could only see about 15-20 Flames games per season.

Other than hoping to find the occasional Flames game on CBC or TSN, I’ve used a Slingbox to watch games over the Internet. If you’re not familiar with the Slingbox, check out my old post about it, or visit the Sling website. My Slingbox works, but the streaming quality is not so good and it only works if I’m in front of my computer. Games that start in Calgary at 7:30 mean a 9:30 start here and I’d have to be up till almost 1am to see all 3 periods. This can be tough when I have to be at work at 430am the following day! I tried it a couple times during the playoffs, etc… but it’s not the kind of thing I can do 82 times a season…

Now that I’ve got NHL Center Ice and a PVR, I can record all the Flames games, and watch them whenever I want. I’ll be sure to post some more thoughts about this in the future.
