Curtis Glencross’ First goal since since joining the Calgary Flames as a Free Agent last summer proved to be the winner tonight as the Flames extended their winning streak to 4 games. The Flames also broke the Colorado Avalanche’s 5 game win streak, while leap-frogging them into 4th position in the Western Conference.
This game was a battle of hot goaltenders, with no score until 8:22 of the 3rd period. Colorado’s Peter Budaj has been almost unbeatable recently, and was named the NHL’s 2nd star last week. But it was Miikka Kiprusoff who came out on top tonight while earning his first shutout of the season and his 150th career win.
After starting the season a dismal 0-3 the Colorado Avalanche won their next 5 games to move them towards the top of the West. The Flames also stumbled out of the gate this season, losing 4 of their first 5 games before finding how to win consistently. The Northwest Division is as tight as ever, and the Flames now sit 2 points behind the Minnesota Wild who have not lost a game in regulation time so far this season.
The Flames next game is on Thursday against the Boston Bruins who have shutout Edmonton and Vancouver so far on their road trip through the NW division.
