Calgary…3
San Jose..4
Jonathan Cheechoo has been pretty silent in the first 3 games of the series, but he’s come back in game 4 and 5 to become a Flames fan’s worst nightmare. Tonight Cheechoo scored 2 goals in the 3rd period to give San Jose the victory and a 3-2 series lead.
Cheechoo received some help from Ryane Clowe (who’s been solid throughout the series) and Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau who now seem to be playing the kind of hockey they’re getting paid to play. Thornton and Marleau had slow starts to this series, but have now both begun to contribute offensively.
After a scoreless first period, Calgary opened the scoring when Jarome Iginla capitalized on a 5-on-3 powerplay shot to beat Evgeni Nabokov for his 3rd goal of the playoffs.
Calgary also received 3rd period goals from Daymond Langkow and David Moss, but 3 was not enough tonight as they lost their 2nd game in a row and are now facing elimination in game 6 on Sunday.
