Marcus Nilson scored on a rebound with less than a minute left in the 2nd period to win the the Calgary Flames’ home opener tonight.

Dwayne Roloson stopped Stefan Yelle’s first shot on net, but left a huge rebound for Nilson, who made no mistake in scoring his first goal of the season. Alex Tanguay picked up his first assist of the season on the play also.

Edmonton opened the scoring in the first period with a goal from Joffrey Lupul just under 9 minutes into the game. But Calgary’s Stefan Yelle notched the equalizer with just 8 seconds left in the period.

The game was typical of any Battle of Alberta matchup, with lots of physical play and plenty of chances for both teams. Both teams had 8 penalties apiece.

Calgary’s next game is at home vs. the San Jose Sharks on Oct 9.
