Calgary..1
Ottawa…0

The Flames have had a hard time scoring goals so far this season, but they only needed one goal tonight to beat the Ottawa Senators 1-0. Flames goalie Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 33 shots to register his first shutout of the season, and Jarome Iginla scored at 11:35 of the 3rd period to give the Flames the win.
Kiprusoff, the 2005-2006 Vezina Trophy winner, had a Flames franchise record of 10 shutouts last season. With the off-season to rest an injured hip, he’s in better shape this season than he was last year.
Calgary’s Dion Phaneuf also showed up to play tonight and threw several good hits throughout the game. Phaneuf’s most notable hit was on Denis Hamel at the Flames blueline. He nailed Hamel with a solid shoulder to the chest and sent him flying about 4 feet through the air and onto his back. A photo of the hit made NHL.com’s Frozen Moment for the night.
Flames captain Jarome Iginla commented about the hit, “What timing he has. He gets a lot of those hits, but that was still pretty impressive to see.”
The Flames continue their eastern roadtrip with a visit to Toronto on Saturday night.
