I don’t think so. Sometimes even for a Flames Fan.
2 years ago the city of Edmonton was cheering whenever the Flames scored. The whole country was. This year it’s changed and now Calgary and the rest of Canada are cheering for the Oilers.
It’s interesting how rivalries go. When it’s game on, I hate the oilers more than any other team in the NHL (except maybe the Canucks). Now that the Flames have been golfing for a month, I’m backing the Oilers marginally more than I am the Hurricanes. It’s funny though, I’m pretty indifferent about who I really want to win. Most of the players are Canadian, and that’s enough for me. I just want to see some exciting, fast paced hockey.
As I write this there’s one minute to play in game 6 in Edmonton. It’s 4-0 for the Oilers and the Stanley cup finals are going back to Carolina for Game 7. Markkanen has a shutout and the Hurricanes are on their heels. Since Doug Weight and Aaron Ward went down with injuries in game 5, they’ve had zero gusto.
The Oilers now have a chance to win the Stanley Cup in 2006. If they do it will be good to see the cup back in Canada, but Edmonton will still be the City of Chumpions to me!!!
Sorry, I can’t jump on the bandwagon entirely!
