Detroit Red Wings fans got a scare tonight when Jiri Fischer suffered a seizure on the Red Wings bench after a shift. He collapsed while sitting on the bench midway through the first period. Fischer had previously been diagnosed with an abnormal heartbeat, but was cleared to play.
The Red Wings got the attention of one of the referees who promptly stopped the game, and called medical staff to the bench. Fischer was given CPR on the bench, and rushed to hospital where he is presently listed in stable condition. The Red Wings said was up and speaking, but will remain in the hospital overnight to monitor his condition.
The NHL decided to postpone the game until a later date.
