Calgary Flames goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff is playing like he was when the Flames romped to game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals last season. He was solid in net again for them as they shutout the Vancouver Canucks 1-0 tonight. Marcus Nilsen scored the lone goal off a give-away by Canucks 2nd string goalie Alex Auld. It was a “textbook” Flames victory, complete with 4 fights lots of hitting, and a couple pucks hit off the post by Jarome Iginla.
I love “the new NHL“… it’s a fast paced game that rewards smart play. We (the fans) are now able to watch the talented players do what they do best. It was evident in several games tonight. I’m also liking the performance of our Canadian hockey teams. The only Canadian team to lose tonight was Vancouver… but can you blame them? They just can’t seem to handle the speed, hitting, and persistence of Calgary. Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto all dominated their games tonight, and now that Toronto’s got Mats Sundin back… they’re looking better.
So all in all it was a good Hockey Night in Canada.
