Phillipe Sauve put in a rock solid performance tonight against his former team, the Colorado Avalance. He stopped 33 of 35 shots, including all 3 in the Shootout to lead the Flames to a 3-2 victory in Colorado. Byron Ritchie and Craig MacDonald scored for the Flames, both with deflections off Jordan Leopold point shots. Pierre Turgeon and Rob Blake scored for Colorado to tie it at 2 apiece.
The flames dominated the whole OT period, but could not get a puck to go past Budaj. with the pressure on, both Roman Hamrlik and Dion Phaneuf blasted rockets from the point in the final seconds of OT, but Budaj was able to stop them both.
After missed shots by Jarome Iginla and Joe Sakic, Tony Amonte became the lone goal scorer in the shootout. Sauve blanked Hejduk and Alex Tanguay to gave the Flames the win.
For his effort, Phillipe Sauve earned the Golden Hardhat for this Flames win.
Calgary’s next game is Wednesday, November 23 vs. San Jose Sharks.
